Description

Of all of the bicycle routes around Stillwater I seem to use this one the most. It isn't particularly special, just convenient.

This ride starts from the southwest corner of Boomer Lake Park, near the American flag (David Payne's grave). Parking is available along the park road. Restrooms are near the boat ramp to the north or across Washington Street at the Jack Griffiths convenience store.

Ride east on Lakeview and make a quick left on Husband Street. I like to take this back way out of Stillwater to avoid the Cimarron Turnpike interchange north of town.

Turn right on Airport Road. Watch traffic and prepare to turn left on Perkins Road. Depending on the time of day, you may wait a bit to make the turn. Ride north on Perkins for about one half mile without a shoulder. The shoulder on Perkins to Yost Road has a bit of trash on it. This is the route trash trucks take to the city dump. This two mile stretch of road was repaved this year (September 2002).

Turn left on Yost Road and ride one mile west to Highway 177 and turn north on the shoulder.

Bill's Corner, the intersection of Highway 177 and 64, is the turn around point. This is six miles north of Yost Road. There is a convenience store for snacks, water, and relief. If you are lucky, you are finished fighting headwinds and will sail back to Stillwater!

This stretch of Highway 177 was repaved this year (Summer 2002) and provides a very smooth ride.
